Art Education Curriculum

M.S. in Art Education
The M.S. candidate in art education must complete a minimum of 30 credits, 21 within and 9 outside the major area. The intensive examination required at the completion of the program may be in the form of a project, a thesis, or a written examination. For further information, visit the School of Education web site. Admission is to the School of Education.

Graduate Teacher Preparation Program
The graduate teacher preparation program is designed for studio art graduates who do not hold an initial (provisional) teaching certificate and wish to prepare for teaching positions in the public schools. Satisfactory completion of the program leads to the master’s degree and permanent New York certification for teaching in the elementary or secondary schools. For further information, visit the School of Education web site.

Certificate of Advanced Studies
The certificate of advanced studies in art education provides greater scope, depth, and thoroughness of preparation than does the master’s degree, yet is distinct from the doctoral programs. It provides the additional specialization necessary for art supervisors and directors. For further information, visit the School of Education web site.

Doctoral Degree
A doctor of philosophy in teaching and curriculum with a concentration in art education is offered through the School of Education. For further information, visit the School of Education web site.
