Setnor School of Music

An audition is required for applicants to the Setnor School of Music's B.A. music program and B.Mus. composition, music education, music industry, and the performance programs in addition to Syracuse University's general requirements. Students applying to the Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Industries are not required to audition but must fulfill SU's general requirements.

Please note: if you are completing the Common Application, the Arts Supplement is not required.

Auditions may be completed in person or by mail. Note that you may register online for music auditions. Please visit our sections on Submitting Your Audition and Audition Requirements to assist you with the audition process. We have also included an admissions checklist (PDF) for your convenience.

All prospective first-year students must meet the following University deadlines to guarantee full consideration for admission and financial aid. Auditions may be completed before or after you submit your application but should meet these deadlines:

EARLY DECISION
November 1: Application and audition must be completed.

REGULAR DECISION
January 1: Application postmarked deadline.
January 1: Audition must be postmarked if submitted by mail.
February 1: In-person audition must be completed. Financial aid forms are due.

Talent Scholarships
The Setnor School of Music is proud to be able to award talent-based scholarships to many potential freshmen and transfer students. There is no separate application; every auditioning student is considered regardless of financial need.

Scholarships are assigned by the director of the Setnor School of Music and continue for the four years that the recipient is enrolled in the school, providing the student maintains an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and a 3.0 GPA in music coursework.

Scholarship Awards:

  • Setnor Awards (full tuition for four years)
  • Director's Award ($18,000 per year for four years)
  • Orchestral String Awards ($18,000 per year for four years)
  • Faculty Awards ($5,000 per year for four years. These students may also be eligible for academic-based awards of up to $12,000)
